Exciting News! The TRANS NAMES film teaser is ready!

I'm thrilled that the TRANS NAMES teaser is now ready. It was a lot of work, and I think it's paid off. Kudos to my amazing team of Des Almoradie (Camera), Alan Roth (sound), Ariel Ottey (Production Assistant), and Barbara Malaran (music). And special mention to my editor, Anthony Simon, a filmmaker in his own right working on a personal documentary tracing the collective history of his native Hawaii via the islands' different economies.

I've been toying with the idea of having audience suggest a title for the film. So that's my ask. You can leave your recommendations in the COMMENTS.

So here it is! Let me know what you think.

UNTITLED TRANS NAMES is a short documentary that asks trans/non-binary/genderqueer and gender non-conforming folks a simple question: “Tell me a story about your name and why you chose it.” But as simple as this inquiry initially appears, it can reveal the intersection of personal and collective histories when responses are informed by each subject’s background, hopes, desires and fantasies. The project highlights only a small aspect of the lives of trans people, but one that carries enormous significance, as choosing of one’s name is often an important step into a transition process that can be prohibitive for many of us without access to certain technologies or even basic health care. 2015 has been arguably the peak year of transgender visibility, with Netflix, Amazon, The New York Times and the Today show featuring material on what it means to be transgender in this present age. Not to mention the many other media projects in distribution or in-progress that highlight transgender characters leads. What is significant to note; however, is that very little of this visibility is produced by trans individuals. Currently in Production. Estimated completion in 2016.
