My op-ed on "The Importance of Trans Visibility" for the Sundance Institute blog (March 31, 2023)

I am one of this year's creative advisors for the Sundance Institute's Trans Possibilities Intensive, a fellowship that nurtures trans filmmakers. On Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31), the Sundance blog published my op-ed arguing for the imperative of championing meaningful and authentic queer and trans storytelling.

“Producing documentary films isn’t a neutral act for me — my purpose as a creative producer is to champion queer and trans stories envisioned by queer and trans filmmakers.”

I'm in the NYFA Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp for Artists of Color!

I was selected to participate in the New York Foundation for the Arts ’s Artists as Entrepreneur Boot Camp. This is great news! I do all sorts of artist support—through my job, but also informally--examples abound: I chat with artists about their artistic practice, offer feedback on their grant application, make introductions and foster connections, etc. This is volunteer work, but still my time and labor, for artists to do their work and succeed. So it's truly nice when my own creative practice is acknowledged and affirmed. Read the announcement here:

Summer in Prospect Park (Brooklyn), and the joys of meeting trans folks

The TRANS NAMES PROJECT team completed another successful shoot on a gorgeous, sunny Saturday in Prospect Park (Brooklyn). Through extensive outreach, we scheduled interviews with various trans*, non-binary, and gender non-conforming folks. They came to the park to talk to us about their names and to tell us a little story about themselves and their choices. In the slideshow, you will find some production stills. Big ups to crew comprised of Des Almoradie (on camera), Alan Roth (on audio), and production assistants Ariel Ottey and Bridget Duggan. Des and Alan are both talented and experienced filmmakers of their own, and Ariel and Bridget are embarking on budding film careers. The team did an amazing job of capturing these lovely individuals on film.  I'm super thrilled with the footage I reviewed so far, and can't wait to start post-production.

Last night at Dirty Looks on Location, which was held at the Eagle, I watched Wakefield Poole's BIJOU. The legendary venue itself was remarkable in reminding me of all the lost spaces of my beloved East Village, of attending sexy and experimental screenings and performances at Wonder Bar. (I also got a free Scruff Pro membership for the year, as this app seemed to be a sponsor of sorts for the screening.)
